Doha: At least 14 people were killed, and 29 others sustained injuries when a passenger train, carrying commuters from Dewele to Dire Dawa city, approximately 200 kilometers apart, was involved in an incident in the Shinile area, eastern Ethiopia, local sources reported Tuesday.
According to Qatar News Agency, Ethiopian Television broadcast images showing the accident scene, showcasing overturned carriages, with some being wholly destroyed. The causes of the accident have yet to be disclosed.
In 1985, over 400 people were killed and 500 others injured following the derailment of a train bound from Djibouti to Addis Ababa, in a valley.
