2 Killed, 10 Injured in Train Derailment in Russia

Two people were killed and ten others were injured in a train derailment accident near the city of Inta in the Russian Republic of Komi. The Russian Railways Company reported that nine carriages of Vorkuta-Novorossiysk train No. 511 derailed due to the collapse of the soil under the railway caused by heavy rain, which resulted in the death of two passengers and the injury of ten others. There were 195 passengers and 20 railway workers on board the train at the time of the accident, the company added. For his part, an expert at the Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia explained that the soil witnessed a massive collapse under the railway, due to heavy water, as the entire Ural region was under the influence of a strong hurricane for several days, and this was accompanied by unprecedented rainfall in some places. As a result of the abnormal rainfall, the water level in some rivers reached 164 cm on Wednesday, the expert added. Source: Qatar News Agency
