Doha: The Celebrations Committee of the Private Engineering Office (PEO) hosted a festive Garangao Night on Friday evening at Souq Waqif's eastern courtyard, with the participation of over 20 governmental entities and institutions, along with Souq Waqif's management and the Embassy of Kuwait. According to Qatar News Agency, thousands of families and children gathered for the event in traditional attire, joyfully chanting heritage songs in a lively atmosphere to honor Qatar's authentic traditions and celebrate the mid-Ramadan Garangao Night. Participating organizations distributed Garangao bags filled with nuts and sweets to children and their families, reinforcing Qatari customs. The children's joy was evident as they celebrated this treasured night. Speaking to QNA, Director of Souq Waqif Mohammed Al Salem stated that Souq Waqif is keen every year to host such events to revive Qatari cultural heritage. He highlighted the unique diversity of participating entities and the remarkable turnout from children a nd families, surpassing expectations amidst the festive traditional ambiance. He said that over 30,000 gifts were distributed to children during the celebration as a recognition of their fasting during Ramadan and encouragement to continue fasting for the remainder of the holy month. Al Salem also emphasized the significance of Kuwait's embassy's participation, reflecting the shared heritage of Gulf Arab countries in marking this occasion. Barqash Hamid Al Nuaimi, from the Public Relations and Communication Department of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC), told QNA that the Ministry is dedicated to participating in national events like Garangao, which celebrates Qatari heritage. He noted the overwhelming engagement, with nearly 2,000 gifts distributed within an hour at the Ministry's booth. Souq Waqif Management annually revives the Garangao tradition to preserve and instill Qatari customs in younger generations. The Garangao celebration, an age-old tradition, renews each year on the 1 5th night of Ramadan, encouraging children to continue fasting throughout the holy month while rewarding them for their dedication.
