Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation - Katara announced the qualification of 30 contestants for the final rounds of the 7th Katara Prize for the Prophet's Poet, out of a total of 1,105. According to Qatar News Agency, this edition is being held under the theme "Poetry Adorned by the Best of Mankind," with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs serving as the strategic sponsor, and Qatar Television as the media partner. The final rounds are scheduled to take place from May 7 to 11, through three stages. In the first stage, 15 contestants in Classical Arabic poetry and 15 in Nabati poetry will compete over three episodes before the judging panel, which will select six contestants from each category to advance to the semifinals. Three winners from each category will then be chosen. All stages will be broadcast on Qatar Television. General Manager of Katara, Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, said the participation in this prize is steadily increasing, with the participation in the current edition reac hing 22 percent compared to previous editions. Individuals from various age groups ranging from 20 to 90 have signed up for the prize, he added. General Supervisor of the Katara Prize for the Prophet's Poet, Khalid Abdul Rahim Al Sayed, asserted that the current edition has demonstrated a meteoric rise in the number of participants competing in Nabati poetry, which is considered an integral part of the Arab cultural heritage. The total prize value amounts to QR 3.8 million, distributed across the Classical Arabic and Nabati poetry categories, with three prizes awarded in each category. The first-place winner receives QR 1 million, the first runner-up receives QR 600,000, and the second runner-up receives QR 300,000.
