32 Al-Shabaab militants linked to Al-Qaeda were killed in a military operation in Lower Juba province, southern Somalia. The Somali News Agency reported that the military operation was carried out by special commando forces in the Batati area of Lower Juba province. It added that the operation also resulted in the arrest of three of Al-Shabaab militants and the seizure of weapons in their possession. The Somali authorities announced an attack on a popular beach in the capital, Mogadishu, that resulted in the killing of 32 people and wounding 63 others with varying injuries. The movement previously claimed responsibility for similar attacks.
