An earthquake measuring 4.5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Tuesday southwest Peru. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the earthquake occurred 65 km from Atiquipa District, at a depth of 32 km. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake so far. Peru experiences at least 400 noticeable earthquakes annually due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a major area of seismic activity that stretches along the western coast of the Americas.
