Lima: An earthquake measuring 4.6 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Wednesday in the Junin region of western Peru. According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake occurred 19 km from Mariposa town, at a depth of 113.3 km. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage resulting from the earthquake so far. Peru, located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, is a region notorious for seismic activity, experiencing at least 400 earthquakes annually. This seismic belt extends along the west coast of the American continent, contributing to Peru's frequent earthquakes.
