Baku: An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale hit the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan.
According to Qatar News Agency, AZERTAC News Agency reported, citing the Azerbaijani National Academy of Earthquake Monitoring Center, that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 70 km.
The Caspian Sea, surrounded by Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan, is experiencing a continuous shrinkage in its area. This shrinkage is attributed to evaporation and the decrease in water inflow from rivers, the largest being the Volga River.
