5.0-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes East Java, Indonesia

Doha: An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale struck East Java province in Indonesia Thursday.

According to Qatar News Agency, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake's epicenter was centered 144 km from the Malang district, at a depth of 10 km.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage.

Indonesia is prone to frequent seismic activity due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where several tectonic plates meet, causing frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
