Doha: An earthquake measuring 5.0 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Sunday south of Camina, Chile.
According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was 18 km from the city of Camina, and it occurred at a depth of 100.5 km.
There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of this seismic event.
Chile's history is marked by earthquakes due to its location along the Ring of Fire, a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. In 2010, a devastating 8.8-magnitude earthquake, followed by a tsunami, struck central and southern parts of the country, resulting in around 500 fatalities.
