Sechura: An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck on Tuesday in Sechura province in northwestern Peru.
According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake occurred 49 km from the provincial capital, Sechura, at a depth of 10 km.
Peru is prone to seismic activity, experiencing at least 400 earthquakes felt by its residents each year. This is largely because the country is situated on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone of seismic activity that runs along the west coast of the Americas.
