5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Balkan in Western Turkmenistan

An earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale hit on Wednesday the Balkan Region in western Turkmenistan.

The epicenter of the quake occurred 40 km of Turkmenbasy, at a depth of 34 km, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported.

No casualties or material damage have been reported as a result of the earthquake.

In 1948, Turkmenistan's capital, Ashgabat, witnessed the most violent earthquakes when it was hit by a 7.3-magnitude earthquake, killing more than 110,000 people. (QNA)
