An earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude on the Richter scale hit east of Taiwan on Sunday. The epicenter of the quake was located 55.9 km southeast of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 30 km, Taiwan News Agency quoted the Central Weather Administration (CWA) as saying. There have been no immediate reports of human losses or material damage due to the earthquake. Taiwan lies near tectonic faults at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, making it vulnerable to regular earthquakes. More than 100 people died in an earthquake in southern Taiwan in 2016, while a 7.6-magnitude earthquake killed more than 2,000 people in 1999. Source: Qatar News Agency
