Khuzestan: An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit on Thursday the Khuzestan Province in southeastern Iran. According to Qatar News Agency, the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale also occurred approximately 8 kilometers northwest of Massjed Soleyman, southwest of Iran. There have been no reports so far of human or material losses due to the earthquake. This is the second earthquake to strike the province within a week, as Iran is periodically hit by earthquakes of varying intensity due to its location on major fault lines. The deadliest of these occurred in 1990, when a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the northwest of the country, leaving 37,000 dead and 100,000 injured.
