6.5-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Japan’s Honshu Island

Doha: An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale struck the Kii Peninsula, south of Japan's Honshu Island.

According to Qatar News Agency, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 402.9 kilometers. There have been no reports of material or human losses as a result of the earthquake so far.

Japan is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where intense seismic activity extends from Southeast Asia across the Pacific Basin. The country experiences frequent earthquakes, prompting it to impose strict building codes to ensure that buildings can withstand strong tremors.
