6.6-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Banda Sea in Indonesia

Doha: A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Banda Sea in Indonesia on Tuesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) stated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 137 kilometers. There have been no reports of damage or casualties so far.

The Indonesian Meteorological Agency (BMI) said that there is no risk of a tsunami from the earthquake.

Earlier Tuesday, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Central Sulawesi Province in Indonesia.

Earthquakes regularly strike various parts of Indonesia, which lies on the Pacific Rim known as the "Ring of Fire," where several tectonic plates collide, causing frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
