Doha: Security authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced today that 66 civilians were killed in two attacks carried out by armed militants in the east of the country, near the border with Uganda. Local officials explained in media statements that militants belonging to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) - an ISIS affiliated armed group - launched two attacks in the Ermo area of Ituri province, killing 66 civilians.
According to Qatar News Agency, spokesperson for the United Nations Mission in Ituri (MONUSCO), Jean Toby Okala issued a press statement condemning the two attacks. The ADF operates on both sides of the border between the DRC and Uganda, in a highly porous area, facilitating the armed group's operations and further complicating the security situation in the east of the country.
