A decision to evacuate the Diab families from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in favor of the settlers

Jerusalem - Ma'an - Today, Monday, the Occupation Magistrate Court issued a decision ordering the eviction of the Diab families from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in the city of Jerusalem. The occupation court gave the families until mid-July to implement the evacuation decision, with the possibility of objecting to it within two months. Three families (17 individuals) live in the homes. Saleh Diab, a member of the Sheikh Jarrah Neighborhood Committee and the owner of the house, explained to Ma'an Agency that the family was surprised today by a decision from the magistrate court judge, ordering their evacuation from their homes in favor of the settlers, pointing out that a session had been held at the end of last May, to discuss the request to evacuate the family, and then the judge was informed. The settlers' lawyer said, "The issue of Sheikh Jarrah's homes is being discussed in the Supreme Court," but the latter asked the judge to decide on the case. Diab added that the judge gave the fam ily's lawyer and the settlers' lawyer 4 months to respond to the allegations, and today he suddenly issued the decision. Diab pointed out that the family has lived in homes for more than 50 years, and began their struggle in the courts to prove their rights since 2009, after receiving judicial notices. The settlement associations claim that the land is owned by the Jews on which the residents' real estate is located in the 'Karam Al-Jaouni' neighborhood in Sheikh Jarrah, and it was registered to them in 1972. The area of ??the land is about 19 dunums, and the associations were able to control the properties of 'a house for the Kurd family, the Al-Ghawi building, the Hanoun building, and a house for the Kurd family,' during the past years, while the rest of the families are waging a struggle in the courts to prevent the homes from being confiscated and stolen from them. There are 28 families living in Karm al-Jaouni who have lived in their homes since 1956, when it was agreed between the Jordanian governme nt, represented by the Ministry of Construction and Development and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees, to provide housing for 28 refugee families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. Indeed, the Jordanian government provided the land and donated The UNRWA paid the costs of constructing 28 houses in exchange for the families giving up the relief card in favor of the UNRWA. One of the terms of the contract was 'paying a nominal fee provided that ownership of the housing would be delegated after 3 years, but that did not happen, then the 1967 war broke out and the issue remained pending.'
