Additional 176 inmates benefit from alternative penalties

In an implementation of the royal directives to expand the implementation of the alternative penalty law and taking into account the social and humanitarian conditions of the convicts, the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing replaced the punishment of 176 inmates.

A total of 5651 inmates so far have benefitted from the application of the alternative penalties programme.

Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, the Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, praised the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, highlighting their keenness to provide all that might help the beneficiaries of alternative punishment to integrate into society.

The Director-General pointed out that the implementation is in coordination with the Public Prosecution and includes presenting the list of beneficiaries to the judge of enforcement.

He added that the instructions of the interior minister regarding the implementation of the programme include providing rehabilitation services, training programmes and follow-up on the beneficiaries.

Shaikh Khalid expressed his appreciation to the institutions that contributed to the implementation of the alternative penalties programme.
