New York: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has renewed its commitment to harnessing the power of the game to drive positive social change during its participation in the United Nations' Football For The Goals (FFTG) forum, at the organization's headquarters in New York.
According to Qatar News Agency, the forum, themed "Champions for Change: Football and the UN Unite for the SDGs," served as a key milestone prior to the launch of the first World Football Week. This event is part of the AFC's ongoing efforts to promote sustainability through international partnerships since joining the initiative in 2022, as it seeks to be a leading force in achieving development through sport.
The AFC held a workshop in July 2024, in partnership with the initiative, focusing on integrating the SDGs into its corporate strategy. In a session titled "Empowering Youth and Supporting Education," AFC Deputy Secretary-General for Member Associations Vahid Kardany emphasized the AFC's commitment to creating safe environments for children and teaching them life skills.
"To that end, the Confederation proudly supports the Football for the Goals initiative and will continue to work toward empowering youth, opening doors to education, and creating safe spaces where children can play, learn, and thrive," he said.
