Doha: Al Arabi retained the Qatar Handball League title for the 2025-2026 season, marking their second consecutive title and fourth overall. Al Arabi secured the championship despite a narrow 26-25 defeat to Al Rayyan on Wednesday during the penultimate round (17th) of the competition.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Arabi's title defense was bolstered by Al Duhail's 29-26 loss to Al Ahli in the same round. This result allowed Al Arabi to maintain their lead in the standings with 49 points, four points ahead of second-placed Al Duhail. With just one round remaining, Al Arabi will be officially crowned champions and receive the league shield.
Al Rayyan, meanwhile, increased their points tally to 41, securing their position in third place. Al Duhail held onto second place with 45 points. In other matches, Al Sadd defeated Qatar SC 24-22, bringing their total to 35 points and securing fourth place, while Qatar SC remained in ninth place with 25 points.
Al Wakrah emerged victorious against Al Khor with a score of 34-31, raising their total to 32 points and placing them fifth. They are level on points with Al Ahli, who are in sixth place but trail on goal difference. Al Khor remained in seventh place with 29 points. Al Gharafa also triumphed over Al Shamal 30-24, bringing their total to 28 points and placing them eighth, as Al Shamal stayed in tenth place with 24 points.
Historically, Al Rayyan holds the record for the most wins in the league with 15 titles, followed by Al Sadd with nine titles. Al Duhail has claimed the championship five times, while Al Ahli and Al Jaish have each won four titles. Al Arabi, now with four titles, matches Al Ahli and Al Jaish's tally. Qatar SC has won the title twice, and both Al Gharafa and Al Wakrah have claimed the championship once.
