Doha: Al Arabi SC, the defending champion, secured a semifinal spot in the 2024-2025 Amir Cup Basketball Tournament, despite a 97-143 loss to Al Sadd in their final group stage match Thursday at Al Gharafa Arena.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Arabi advanced to the semifinals with seven points, topping Group A, securing a place in the last four despite having the same points as Al Ahli, which finished second with seven points. Meanwhile, Al Sadd ended its campaign in fourth place with six points, exiting the tournament at the group stage.
In Group B, Al Rayyan qualified directly for the semifinals, having topped the group with six points from three consecutive wins. Al Wakrah finished second with five points, while Al Shamal placed third with four points.
The next phase, the Course Stage knockout round, will feature teams finishing second and third in each group. Al Ahli (Group A runner-up) will face Al Shamal (Group B third place) on May 12. AlGharafa (Group A third place) will meet Al Wakrah (Group B runner-up) on the same day.
Both matches will follow a knockout format at Al Gharafa Arena. The winners will advance to the semifinals, where Al Arabi and Al Rayyan await. The semifinal matches will follow a best-of-three format.
The two finalists will compete in a single championship match on May 22, 2025.
