Doha: Al Duhail SC announced Thursday the official termination of Kenyan striker Michael Olunga's contract with the first football team. The club stated on its official account that Olunga's contract, which expires at the end of the current 2024-25 season, will not be renewed, and he will not continue with the team in the upcoming period.
According to Qatar News Agency, the club's management expressed gratitude towards Olunga for his contributions over the past seasons, highlighting his professionalism and discipline. Olunga, 31, leaves a significant legacy as Al Duhail's all-time leading scorer, having netted 130 goals in all competitions during his tenure.
Throughout his four seasons with Al Duhail, after joining from the Japanese league, Olunga has been instrumental in securing five titles for the club. His achievements include the league title and the Qatar Cup in 2023, HH the Amir's Cup title in 2022, and the Qatar Stars Cup (QSL) in 2023 and 2024.
In a related development, two days prior to the announcement of Olunga's departure, the club declared the exit of French coach Christophe Galtier. Al Duhail concluded the current 2024/25 season without securing any new titles, finishing second in both the Qatar League and Qatar Cup, and facing elimination in the quarterfinals of HH the Amir's Cup.
