Doha: Al Gharafa moved to the top of the standings in the first section of the Qatar Women's Basketball League for the 2025-2026 season after the conclusion of the third round of matches.
According to Qatar News Agency, the latest round produced closely contested encounters, underlining the competitive balance among the four participating teams. Al Gharafa secured pole position with a 55-49 victory over Al Shamal in a tactically disciplined contest marked by strong defensive organization.
The match remained evenly poised for much of the game, with both sides exchanging control. However, Al Gharafa demonstrated greater composure in key moments, particularly in quick defensive transitions and in limiting individual errors, allowing them to edge ahead in the closing stages.
The win means Al Gharafa have collected a maximum six points from three matches, maintaining a perfect start to the campaign. Al Shamal, meanwhile, have four points. In the other fixture, Al Adaam claimed a narrow 63-60 victory over Al Khor in another tightly fought contest. The game remained close throughout, with Al Adaam enjoying slightly more possession, while Al Khor showed determination as they sought to recover from earlier defeats.
The result marked Al Adaam's second win of the season, lifting them to five points. Al Khor suffered their third consecutive loss and remain on three points. This season's competition is being held across three sections, featuring four teams: Al Gharafa, Al Shamal, Al Khor, and Al Adaam. The title will be awarded to the team with the highest number of points at the end of the competition. If teams are level on points at the top of the table, a play-off match will determine the champions.
The second section of the league is scheduled to begin on Friday (Feb. 20, 2026), with Al Adaam set to face Al Gharafa, while Al Khor will take on Al Shamal.
