Al Noor Center for Blind Celebrates International Day with Awareness Events.

Doha: Al Noor Center for the Blind, operating under the Qatar Foundation for Social Work and affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, is marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated annually on December 3. This occasion is highlighted through a series of media campaigns and awareness-raising events designed to enhance public awareness regarding the rights of individuals with visual impairments and the importance of their inclusion in society. The day's activities include an awareness seminar at Katara, as well as art shows featuring individuals with visual impairments, providing them an opportunity to showcase their inherent skills and talents. According to Qatar News Agency, media campaigns are being launched to target the entire community, aiming to change the widespread stereotypes about these individuals and emphasize their abilities and potential. Mishal Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Executive Director of Al Noor Center, stated that this day serves as an opportunity for everyone to consider ways to promote the rights of persons with disabilities. He highlighted that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to engage in society, regardless of their abilities. Al Nuaimi stressed that awareness is crucial in changing prevailing notions, noting that platforms are being offered for individuals to express themselves and share their experiences, thus fostering a more inclusive and understanding society. He expressed hope that these activities will enhance support for the blind and inspire others to engage in efforts to support them. He also emphasized the importance of forming partnerships with public and private institutions to strengthen the rights of persons with disabilities. Al Nuaimi also asserted that the center collaborates with numerous entities to promote legislation and policies that support the rights of the blind, highlighting that community collaboration is key to achieving positive change.
