Ankara: Competition continued on Tuesday in Group Two of Al Qalayel Traditional Hunting Championship 2026 at Al Eraiq Reserve, amid strong performances and shifting rankings among the participating teams.
According to Qatar News Agency, the championship, supported by the Social and Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM), reaffirmed its status as one of the region's leading heritage sporting events. Group Two features the teams Al Sadd, Al Jalaa, Dukhan, and Al Nakhsh.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee Khalid bin Mohammed Al Maadhid said the group's contests reflected a high level of professionalism and intensity. He noted that Lejlaa moved into the lead after Dukhan topped the standings on the opening day. He stressed that the frequent changes in rankings highlight the closeness in skill and competitiveness among the teams.
Al Maadhid pointed to the presence of experienced teams such as Al Nakhsh, which has secured multiple podium finishes in previous editions, as well as Al Jalaa and Al Sadd, both longstanding participants with a strong competitive legacy. He added that Dukhan continues to deliver solid performances and remains determined to reach the podium, having qualified for the final on several occasions.
Deputy Chairman and Executive Director of the championship Mohammed bin Nahar Al Nuaimi praised the quality of competition in Group Two despite environmental challenges such as strong winds. He highlighted the growing participation of young hunters, saying the championship continues to attract new talent from Qatar and across the Gulf, united by a shared passion for traditional falconry.
Head of the Technical Committee Ali Hamad Dharman said Al Jalaa's rise to the top demonstrated focus, discipline, and smart adaptation to field conditions. He emphasized that sudden shifts in results are part of the sport's appeal, adding excitement and reinforcing the spirit of fair competition.
Participants in Group Two, meanwhile, stressed that thorough preparation before entering the reserve remains a decisive factor, as the championship rewards planning, endurance, and experience alongside performance in the field.
