Doha: Al-Raya newspaper praised the intensive talks held in Doha involving senior officials from Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, who acted as mediators to broker a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and alleviate the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe that has been ongoing in Gaza for 10 months. In its editorial today, the newspaper highlighted that the statement issued by the mediators following these intensive discussions brings hope for the resolution of this crisis, aiming to save lives, provide relief to the people of Gaza, and calm regional tensions. The editorial noted that, following the release of the Doha statement, which emphasized that the talks were serious, constructive, and conducted in a positive atmosphere, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani discussed the latest developments in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as the joint mediation efforts to end the war on Gaza, during a phone call with U.S. President Joe Bide n. The paper noted that this underscores the high-level coordination between the mediation parties, with Doha, Cairo, and Washington believing that they are closer than ever to reaching an agreement. The newspaper called on the parties involved in the crisis to make a positive breakthrough in their positions, especially after the United States, with Qatari and Egyptian support, presented a proposal that narrows the gaps between the parties and aligns with the principles set forth by President Biden on May 31, 2024, and UN Security Council Resolution 2735. The paper also said that the American proposal builds on the points of agreement achieved over the past week and addresses the remaining gaps in a way that allows for the rapid implementation of the agreement. The editorial also noted that the technical teams from the mediating countries will continue to work in the coming days on the details of implementation, including arrangements for executing the comprehensive humanitarian aspects of the agreement, a s well as issues related to the hostages and detainees, as senior officials from the mediating countries are expected to meet in Cairo before the end of next week as part of the joint efforts to reach an agreement that ends the war on Gaza, facilitates a prisoner exchange, and ensures the sustained delivery of aid to Gaza.
