Al-Raya Urges UN to Prevent UNRWA Collapse Amid Qatar’s Continued Support.

Doha: Al-Raya newspaper has called on the United Nations to shoulder its responsibilities in preventing the collapse of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), emphasizing that saving UNRWA is tantamount to saving humanity and the defenseless Palestinian people who have been left alone to face killing, displacement, starvation, and collective punishment. According to Qatar News Agency, the editorial underscored Qatar's unwavering support for UNRWA, politically, diplomatically, and financially, as part of Qatar's international commitments and multilateral efforts, as well as its steadfast stance in supporting the Palestinian people. It added that the State of Qatar believes that UNRWA is indispensable in addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people. The editorial also noted that Doha has sounded the alarm, warning of the catastrophic consequences of banning or halting support for UNRWA. Al-Raya highlighted Qatar's critical role as a li feline for UNRWA, evidenced by its generous donations to the UN agency operating in Palestinian territories and refugee camps. It noted that Qatar was the first Arab country to sign a multi-year agreement with UNRWA in 2018 and is among its largest donors, with Qatar's financial contributions exceeding $49 million in 2024, stressing that Palestinian refugees remain a top priority for Qatar. In conclusion, the newspaper asserted that the Palestinian cause is a cornerstone of Qatar's foreign policy. Al-Raya noted that Doha remains unwavering in its support for Palestinians, especially in light of the international community's failure to reach a political solution to halt the ongoing brutal aggression against the Palestinian people for more than a year.
