Algeria Vows to Send First Natural Gas Shipment to Lebanon on Thursday

The Algerian oil and gas company 'Sonatrach' has announced that it prepares to send a first shipment of natural gas to Lebanon on Thursday, Aug.22. In a statement on Wednesday, Sonatrach said the shipment is estimated at approximately 30,000 tons to support the operation of electrical power generation plants in Lebanon, in implementation of the directives of the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to supply Lebanon with energy to be able to overcome its current crisis. The company underscored that Algeria stands in solidarity with Lebanon in these challenging circumstances through promptly supplying it with ample quantities of energy to operate electricity generation plants and restore the electric power to Lebanon. Last Saturday, the Electricity of Lebanon announced that it would cease all electricity supply to all Lebanese territories, including essential facilities such as the airport, the Beirut port, and the prisons, due to the depletion of fuel oil.
