An Air Algerie passenger plane made an emergency landing Monday, returning to Houari Boumediene Airport after taking off for about an hour due to a technical failure. Air Algerie said in a statement that the plane was on a flight between Algiers and Istanbul, and took off at 23:02 local time from Algiers International Airport, before its pilot decided to return to Houari Boumediene International Airport an hour after takeoff, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. The company said that "maintenance teams are currently working to determine the exact causes of the failure, and to conduct the necessary technical checks to return the plane to service as soon as possible."
