Apple Plans to Remove iPhone’s SIM Card Tray in More Countries.

Cupertino: Apple is reportedly set to eliminate the physical SIM card tray from iPhones in additional countries next year, as indicated by a report from The Information that centers on the ultra-slim "iPhone 17 Air." In the United States, all models from the iPhone 14 to the iPhone 16 have already transitioned to a design that does not include a SIM card tray. According to Qatar News Agency, the iPhone 17 Air prototypes are between 5 and 6 millimeters thick, a dramatic reduction compared to the iPhone 16 at 7.8 mm. The iPhone 6 currently holds the title as Apple's thinnest iPhone ever, measuring in at 6.9 mm. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Air will have a single camera on the back housed in a "large, centered camera bump." The iPhone 17 Air will be "among the first iPhones" to use Apple's in-house 5G modem. As it stands right now, however, Apple's modem still can't match Qualcomm's 5G chips in terms of performance, although it is more efficient. It also lacks support for mmWave 5G.
