Applications Open for Abdul Hameed Shoman Children’s Literature Prize

Amman: Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation in Jordan announced that applications are now open for the 19th edition of Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Children's Literature. According to Qatar News Agency, the award's scientific committee clarified that this year's theme will be Travel Literature in the genre of stories aimed at children aged 9 and older. The deadline for submitting nominations is the end of March. The award has specific eligibility requirements: applicants must be of Arab nationality or descent, at least 18 years old, and the work must be written in accessible Modern Standard Arabic. It should be an original piece, not adapted or translated from another language, and must not have been previously published in newspapers, journals, websites, or in print. Additionally, the work must not have been submitted to any other award or previously won a prize. The story must target readers aged 9 and above, with a word count between 5,000 and 6,000 words. Applicants are allowed to submit only one work. A c ommittee of experts in the field, appointed by the scientific committee, will evaluate submissions based on specific criteria, including innovation, language, style, content, originality, and creativity. The Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Children's Literature is presented annually. The winner receives a certificate recognizing their achievement, a trophy with the award's name and logo, and a cash prize of 10,000 Jordanian dinars for first place, 5,000 dinars for second place, and 3,000 dinars for third place.
