Cairo: Secretary-General of the Arab League Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit met with the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, to discuss recent developments in Sudan and ongoing efforts to achieve peace.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting took place at the Arab League headquarters, where Aboul Gheit emphasized the key principles guiding the Arab League's approach to the Sudanese crisis. These principles include maintaining Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; protecting its national institutions; opposing foreign interference in its internal matters; and advocating for a comprehensive and inclusive Sudanese national dialogue.
The UN envoy, Ramtane Lamamra, shared his initiatives aimed at reconciling the Sudanese parties to end the conflict and alleviate the humanitarian and food crises affecting the Sudanese population.
Discussions also covered the consultative meeting intended to synchronize peace efforts and initiatives in Sudan. The UN envoy highlighted the significance of these meetings, initiated by the Arab League in July 2024, as a means to consolidate international and regional efforts in resolving the Sudanese crisis.
