Arab League Supports Yemen Prisoners Swap Deal, Calls for More Actions

Muscat: The Arab League welcomed the deal that was signed in Muscat, Oman, regarding the swap for the release of several prisoners and detainees of different nationalities in Yemen.

According to Qatar News Agency, this deal represents a vital humanitarian gesture that should be monitored and shored up with other initiatives to release further prisoners and detainees in Yemen, Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit said in a statement Tuesday.

Aboul Gheit applauded the mediation efforts brokered by the Sultanate of Oman, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Office of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to reach this consequential accord.

He hoped that the agreement would create the appropriate conditions to comprehensively resolve the Yemeni crisis.
