Arab Parliament About to Launch Handbook to Support Terrorism Victims’ Rights

Doha: The Arab Parliament announced Thursday it is about to release a parliamentary guidebook to further support the rights of victims of terrorism. The project, which is being prepared by the Arab Parliament's Arab Center for Counter-Terrorism and Extremist Ideology, will serve as a comprehensive reference for Arab parliaments, in cooperation with the Arab League's General Secretariat. The guidebook will identify best practices, legislative frameworks, and procedures necessary to support, protect, and compensate victims of terrorism.

According to Qatar News Agency, Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi voiced hopes the Doha-based United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) would be a third partner in preparing the guidebook. During a meeting with UNOCT officials, Al Yamahi noted the significant efforts it is making in this field, particularly through its coordination mechanism with parliamentary counter-terrorism associations, in all of whose meetings the Arab Parliament is keen to participate.

For his part, Program Officer on Parliamentary Engagement, UNOCT, Murad Tangiev, highlighted that the Arab Parliament is one of the most important and active partners of the UNOCT. He expressed the UNOCT's welcome of the Arab Parliament's proposals to support and promote the rights of victims of terrorism, given that this is one of the most important issues it addresses.
