Doha:HE President of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Eng. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Meer, has underscored the necessity of a farsighted strategic vision and established operations to achieve sustainable infrastructure success.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Al Meer highlighted these points during a panel discussion on infrastructure at the Leadership Innovation Forum 2026 in Doha. He stated that building a robust national infrastructure system requires qualified national personnel to enhance institutional performance and maintain resilient operations, irrespective of leadership or contractor changes.
HE Al Meer detailed Ashghal’s strategic shift from meeting immediate project needs to developing a comprehensive infrastructure system, including highways, sewage networks, and public buildings. This transformation is crucial to align with Qatar’s rapid urban and economic growth and to achieve the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Furthermore, HE the President stressed Ashghal’s role in long-term infrastructure asset management, treating each project as an integrated life cycle from implementation to continuous maintenance. This process is essential for the system’s ongoing performance. He also highlighted the importance of digital transformation and the adoption of advanced technologies, like artificial intelligence, to improve asset management and service quality.
The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was described by HE Al Meer as a pivotal moment that tested Ashghal’s capabilities in delivering infrastructure projects under pressure, requiring effective coordination with various government entities. This experience demonstrated the importance of robust systems and coordination in managing complex projects.
