Doha: Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence hosted a ten-day table tennis training camp. The camp served players from Sweden, India and Croatia, joined by four student athletes from Aspire Academy and two players selected by the Qatar Table Tennis Federation. The training camp was led by Aspire Academy's head table tennis coach, Swedish international and former European champion Peter Karlsson, with the assistance of coach Jakov Krivic, head coach at Aspire Academy. The camp is a preparatory period for Aspire players and Qatari table tennis teams to participate in the West Asian competitions that will kick off in Jordan on August 26 and will last for five days. In addition to the young players, there were visiting coaches from India and Croatia. Josip Jerkovic, a member of the Croatian national teams technical staff who oversees the development of two 17-year-old players from the youth ranks, expressed his great pleasure in being at Aspire Academy, expressing his admiration for the facilities and the suppo rt team, such as the strength and conditioning experts and the equipment team, who worked with the head coaches. Jerkovic said in a statement that his team gained a lot of experience during this camp, in addition to the variety of competitors and training with them. He explained that it is very important to participate in this type of camp in order to compete against players from different schools, in addition to gaining the opportunity to learn from coach Peter Karlsson, one of the most important champions of the game in the past, in addition to the wonderful atmosphere at the academy. For his part, Isak Alfredsen, one of the Swedish players, said that during the camp he was working on the psychological side of his game, and facing competitors from all over the world, in addition to playing many matches against different competitors is good for training.
