Doha: The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) delivered 14,298 food baskets, worth QR 1,158,591 as in-kind items to families eligible for Zakat Al Fitr, said Director of the Zakat Affairs Department, Saad bin Omran Al Kuwari. The food basket - part of the charitable donations obligatory for all able Muslims at the end of the holy month of Ramadan - were delivered to 29,352 eligible individuals within Qatar, Al Kuwari said. He added this was completed in collaboration with the Awqaf-affiliated Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center and the Preservation of Grace Project, hailing the two organizations' large and well organized database of beneficiaries over a wide geographical area within the State of Qatar. The Zakat Affairs Department had been collecting the donations from citizens and residents in accordance with the Islamic Sharia until the last day of the holy month of Ramadan, which ended on April 9, 2024.
