Manama, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, affirmed that Bahrain's hosting of the 33rd Arab Summit reflects Bahrain's vital role in supporting and strengthening joint Arab action and solidarity, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He hailed the royal approach that guided Bahrain's diplomatic policy, characterised by moderation, balance and openness. Speaker Al Musallam said that holding the summit in Bahrain for the first time is a landmark event in light of exceptional developments witnessed by the region on political and economic scales, and the situation in Palestine, which poses a threat to the peace process and stability. He praised the commitment of HM the King to holding discussions with the leaders of the Arab countries, which underlines the importance of the Bahrain Summit in addressing vital issues and achieving a unified Arab vision in this critical and pivotal stage. Al Musallam said that the Palestinian cause holds a high priority on the agenda of the Arab Summit, and that the historical position of Bahrain is firm in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent, sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. The Speaker highlighted Bahrain's commitment to supporting Arab cooperation and the Arab economic development agreements, alongside addressing political and security challenges, terrorist threats, cybersecurity, energy, water, food, and development projects. He lauded the Bahraini diplomatic efforts to ensure the success of the Arab Summit, and hailed the coordination and organisation undertaken by the kingdom's institutions, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. Al Musallam affirmed the commitment of Arab parliaments and legislative councils in following up on the Bahrain Su mmit, the results it will yield, and the decisions and recommendations that the final statement will include.
