Cabinet Approves Draft Law to Amend Real Estate Lease Provisions

Doha: HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting held on Wednesday morning at the Amiri Diwan.

According to Qatar News Agency, following the meeting, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi stated that the Cabinet began by commending the outcomes of the discussions between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE Prime Minister of Canada Dr. Mark Carney. The joint statement from the visit underscored the strong relations and partnership between Qatar and Canada, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation for their mutual benefit, and supporting regional and international peace and stability.

The Cabinet's agenda included approving a draft law to amend certain provisions of Law No. 4 of 2008 regarding real estate leases, which has now been referred to the Shura Council. This draft law, prepared by the Ministry of Municipality, seeks to address illegal subdivisions in real estate units, mitigate issues from unregistered lease contracts, and reduce associated registration fees.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved two draft decisions from the Minister of Justice concerning the registration and deregistration of arbitrators, and the establishment of arbitration centers. These drafts align with the Ministry's strategy to develop the justice system and promote alternative dispute resolution methods, enhancing the arbitration profession and the country's standing as a leading regional and international center in this field.

The Cabinet also gave its approval to a draft Free Trade Agreement between the governments of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the government of New Zealand, furthering international trade relations.

The meeting concluded with the Cabinet reviewing and taking appropriate measures on five reports. These included reports from the Qatar Financial Markets Authority's Grievance Committee, a report on the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs' visit to Rwanda, and outcomes from international meetings on women's issues and regional health initiatives.
