Cabinet Emphasizes Strengthening International Relations and Approves Key Agreements

Doha: The Cabinet of Qatar, under the chairmanship of HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, held its regular weekly meeting at the Amiri Diwan. The meeting, which took place on Wednesday morning, was followed by a statement from HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Cabinet began by welcoming the results of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's state visit to the Sultanate of Oman on January 28-29. The discussions between HH the Amir and HM Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, along with the signed memoranda of understanding and joint statements, were highlighted as reflections of the strong historical relations and shared aspirations for advancing bilateral interests, supporting Gulf cooperation, and contributing to regional and global stability.

The Cabinet also acknowledged HH the Amir's historic visit to the Syrian Arab Republic on January 30, a move that underscores Qatar's commitment to supporting the Syrian people. The positive interactions between HH the Amir and HE President Ahmed Al Sharaa of Syria were praised for laying the groundwork for strategic cooperation in various fields, aimed at fostering development and peace in the region.

During the meeting, the Cabinet reviewed several agenda items, including the Shura Council's approval of amendments to the law regulating advertisements. The Cabinet agreed to ratify a supplementary agreement with the UNDP for a new office in Qatar and a memorandum for trade cooperation with Costa Rica. Additionally, the Cabinet approved Qatar's participation in the International Operational Risk Working Group and a memorandum of understanding on food security with Saudi Arabia.

Further approvals were given for agreements supporting humanitarian efforts, including contributions to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and UNICEF for the years 2025-2026. Academic cooperation agreements between Doha University of Science and Technology and Canadian universities were also endorsed.

The meeting concluded with the Cabinet reviewing reports on topics such as government procurement systems, environmental sustainability strategies, participation in COP 29, and the Qatar-Iran Joint Committee session, taking necessary decisions based on these evaluations.
