Cairo: The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) announced the formation of a new tournament, the "African Nations League," promising to host a premier Senior National Team Competition in Africa annually. This tournament will feature top African football players who compete in elite leagues globally, in collaboration with FIFA.
According to Qatar News Agency, during the years when the FIFA World Cup takes place, the focus will shift to the 9 or 10 African Senior National Teams that have qualified for the World Cup, and no separate African Senior National Team Competition will be held.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed enthusiasm for the changes, stating, "We are excited about the new changes that we have introduced, which will make African Senior National Team Competitions amongst the best in the World."
CAF also revealed that the restructuring of its Senior National Team Competitions and the USD 1 billion tender will allow it to contribute USD 1 million annually to each of the 54 CAF Member Associations.
