Chinese President Xi Jinping met Thursday with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, who is currently visiting Beijing. The Chinese President said during the meeting that China and the United States, as two major countries, should be responsible to history, peoples and the world, and be a source of stability for world peace and an engine for common development, Xinhua News Agency reported. Xi explained that despite the major changes that have occurred in the two countries and in China-US relations, China's commitment to the goal of establishing a stable, healthy and sustainable relationship between the two countries has not changed, nor has the principle of dealing on the basis of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had previously met with the US National Security Advisor, and stressed during the meeting that Washington should not use bilateral treaties as a pretext to undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
