Following the directives of the Cabinet headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, to follow up on the strategic stock of food commodities to ensure that market needs are constantly met, Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce, met with the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Food Sector Committee, headed by Khalid Al Amin.
The meeting discussed the ability of the strategic stock of food to meet the needs of consumers in Bahrain, stressing the importance of stabilising prices of food commodities during the upcoming period in light of the rapid global changes, as some countries are currently banning the export of cheap broken white rice.
Participants in the meeting also affirmed the availability of Basmati rice in Bahrain, which constitutes 85% of imported rice to the Kingdom of Bahrain, and was not subject to the export banning decisions.
Moreover, Fakhro noted that the Ministry of Industry and Commerce will continue to conduct periodic inspection and field visits to follow up and monitor violations, and that it will continue to receive complaints from consumers and residents around the clock through various official communication channels.
