Dembele Wins UEFA Champions League Player of the Season Award

Paris: Ousmane Dembele, forward for French club Paris Saint-Germain, has been named the UEFA Champions League Player of the Season for the 2024-2025 campaign, the European football governing body announced Sunday. The official UEFA Champions League account on X posted a picture of the French star, declaring him the best player of the concluded season after his team secured their first-ever Champions League title.

According to Qatar News Agency, PSG defeated Italian club Inter Milan 5-0 in the final match on Saturday. Dembele played 49 matches across all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain this season, including 29 in Ligue 1, 15 in the Champions League, four in the French Cup, and one in the French Super Cup. He scored 33 goals - 21 in Ligue 1, eight in the Champions League, three in the French Cup, and one in the French Super Cup. Dembele also provided 15 assists, with eight in Ligue 1, six in the Champions League, and one in the French Cup.

Dembele's trophies with Paris Saint-Germain this season include the French League title, the UEFA Champions League, the French Cup, and the French Super Cup. Separately, Paris Saint-Germain teammate Desire Doue won the competition's Young Player of the Season award. The 19-year-old Doue delivered an impressive performance in his debut season with Paris Saint-Germain under Spanish coach Luis Enrique, after joining from Stade Rennais in the summer of 2024. Doue contributed to nine goals during PSG's Champions League triumph, scoring five goals and providing four assists. He notably shone in the Champions League final against Inter Milan, contributing to three goals by scoring two.
