DI Organizes Seminar on ‘Meaning of News Among Arabs’

Doha: The Journalism Program at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) organized a seminar on 'the meaning of news among Arabs: studies in news culture in the digital environment.' In the beginning of the seminar, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Institute Dr. Amal Ghazal, said that the seminar falls within the Institute's philosophy of supporting and serving academic research related to the Arab context and encouraging collective research initiatives, particularly those that cross disciplines in the social sciences and humanities.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Head of the Journalism Program at the Institute, Dr. Basim Tweissi, stated that the seminar, which focuses on studying news culture from the perspectives of production, consumption, distribution, and influence, includes discussions of 11 academic papers that will be published in a book.

He explained the importance of news culture research in the Arab world, given that the Arab region has become the largest producer of news in recent decades and the most affected by it.

The seminar also included three discussion sessions that highlighted topics such as news culture, the digital environment, the news industry, technological transformations, and artificial intelligence. Researchers from Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, and the UAE participated.

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants announced the launch of the first Arab research group specializing in news culture research in the Arab arena.
