Doha: The Director of the Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada, has revealed the ministry's plans to open more public parks across various municipalities in the near future, increasing the total number of parks in the country to 160.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Sada stated that Qatar currently has 122 public parks spread across various municipalities, encompassing a total area of 2.6 million square meters. The combined total of parks, squares, and corniches reaches 151, covering an area of 3.19 million square meters.
Al Sada highlighted that public parks experience a significant influx of visitors during the holy month of Ramadan due to the favorable weather, making them a popular destination for families and individuals seeking recreation and a break from daily routines.
He explained that many families choose public parks to break their fast during Maghreb time, taking advantage of the comprehensive facilities available, such as seating areas, prayer rooms, restrooms, and designated areas for sports activities and children's games.
Visitor numbers have notably increased, attributed to the parks' supervisory teams' efforts in maintenance, cleanliness, and security. Ongoing coordination between municipal park departments ensures a safe and comfortable environment for all visitors.
Al Sada described public satisfaction with the services provided as "very high," noting that no significant complaints have been recorded. He assured that work teams are prepared to address any comments swiftly.
Future improvements focus on efficient park operation, with an emphasis on cleanliness in facilities like prayer rooms, restrooms, and seating areas. Work teams in public parks, especially large central parks, have been strengthened. A follow-up program ensures the presence of security and cleaning teams until 1:00 AM during Ramadan.
In terms of sustainability, Al Sada mentioned the ministry's commitment to developing new parks according to environmental sustainability standards. This includes using local plants requiring less water, enhancing irrigation systems with treated wastewater, and providing integrated infrastructure like walking paths and shaded seating areas.
The future strategy also aims to enhance security and safety in parks by installing surveillance cameras and signage detailing general rules. Additionally, partnerships with the private sector will be strengthened to operate kiosks and organize events.
