Discus Thrower Matt Denny to Compete in Diamond League Doha Round

Doha: The Diamond League announced today that Australian discus thrower Matt Denny will compete in the Doha round of the league this coming Friday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the discus throw event in this round is expected to see intense competition, given participation from some of the best athletes with the most medals won over the past three seasons. Matt Denny, an Olympic bronze medalist and second-best performer in history with a throw of 74.78m, will be competing alongside Sweden's Daniel Stahl, the 2023 World Champion in Hungary, and Slovakia's Kristjan Ceh. These athletes are among the top contenders for the Diamond Trophy in the discus event, setting the stage for a potential new record to be set in Doha.

Denny is considered the favorite to equal the event's record, held by Lithuania's Mykolas Alekna at 75.56m. This expectation is due to Denny's continuous improvement since 2022, having won the Diamond League title twice in 2023 and 2024. He is aiming for a third consecutive title.

The Doha leg of the Diamond League will take place on Friday with the participation of over 50 athletes, including Olympic and world medalists. They will compete in various events, namely the 200m, 100m, 400m, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 800m, 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, pole vault, triple jump, high jump, discus throw, and javelin throw.
