Doha Falcons Claim Runner-Up Spot in GCL Super Cup in Rome

Doha: Qatar's Doha Falcons secured a strong second-place finish in the Global Champions League (GCL) Super Cup team competition, held as part of the 14th leg of the prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT), currently underway in the Italian capital, Rome. According to Qatar News Agency, the two-round team competition, set at a height of 1.60 meters and offering a total prize purse of EUR 200,000, saw intense action among some of the world's elite show jumpers. The Cannes Stars team emerged victorious, represented by German riders Sophie Hinners aboard Iron Dames and Katrin Eckermann on Iron Dames Blue and Chao Lee, completing the course flawlessly in a combined time of 151.17 seconds to claim the EUR 25,000 top prize. The Doha Falcons, represented by Qatari riders Sheikh Ali Bin Khalid Al-Thani riding Comme On Stanley and Bassem Mohammed aboard Rocketman, delivered a solid performance, finishing in 155.27 seconds with four faults, earning them the runner-up position and a EUR 21,000 prize. Roundin g out the podium were the Paris Panthers, featuring Clara Bizzarri on Fantasia and Ravennist, alongside Guido Grimaldi aboard Gentleman. The team completed the course in 159.21 seconds with six faults, securing third place and a EUR 17,000 prize. With 14 legs completed and the championship drawing to a close, the race for the overall GCL title is heating up. The Cannes Stars, with their win in Rome, have drawn level on points (277) with Valkenswaard United. However, Valkenswaard United retain the top spot due to a greater number of overall wins. Shanghai Swans currently sit in third place with 246 points. The excitement continues in Rome with the highly anticipated individual Grand Prix, where the world's top riders will compete at the 1.60m level for over EUR 300,000 in prize money and the coveted golden ticket to the GCL Super Grand Prix Final in Prague. The Longines Global Champions Tour and Global Champions League continue their 17-leg journey across the globe, having kicked off in Doha before travelli ng through iconic cities including Mexico City, Shanghai, Madrid, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Paris, Monaco, London, Valkenswaard, New York, Vienna, and Rome. The tour now heads to Rabat, Riyadh, and culminates with the dramatic season finale - the GCL Super Cup - in Prague, Czech Republic.
