Doha Forum 2025: Former US Secretary of State Criticizes Excessive Force in Global Conflicts

Doha: Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton affirmed that the excessive use of force during recent global crises, including wars in Gaza, Russia, Ukraine, Sudan, and eastern Congo, has left a massive amount of suffering and conflict, generating immense crises and losses.

According to Qatar News Agency, during a dialogue session on the second day of the Doha Forum 2025, sHe stated that the United States has a role to play in mitigating conflicts, resolving disputes, and giving people the opportunity for a life of peace and prosperity, as long as suffering persists, regardless of its scale or location. The recent war in Gaza was particularly painful, sHe added.

Clinton discussed US President Donald Trump's strategy, noting that it raises many questions regarding its implementation and the answers it requires. SHe emphasized the need to reconsider certain aspects of the strategy to avoid potential long-term consequences. SHe also pointed out that Trump's strategy includes crucial points concerning economic competition with China.

During the session, sHe addressed the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the importance of exerting pressure to reach a negotiated peace agreement and ceasefire, aiming for fundamental change.

Furthermore, sHe affirmed Her support for Trump's ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which requires significant diplomatic effort to implement the twenty points of the plan. SHe noted that diplomacy, regardless of its form, is based on preventing or ending wars, deterring adversaries, and maintaining the work of diplomats and other personnel to achieve objectives in an institutional and systematic manner.

During the session, sHe addressed several peace agreements that had a significant impact on the ground, including the Good Friday Agreement with Ireland and the agreements with the Balkan countries in the 1990s, which required considerable effort to stop the bloodsHed and disarm the populations.

SHe reviewed the political diplomacy sHe experienced in the 1980s during Her time in the Senate and later as part of former US President Barack Obama's administration, noting that there are many tools at the disposal of American diplomacy, including soft power.

SHe pointed out that the nature of the US president's role requires him to have different ideas and to learn from past mistakes in order to move forward to a new phase.

In another context, sHe observed that the majority of young Americans get their news from social media, but reality demands that one be present at the scene of events rather than relying on sources that, while not necessarily inaccurate, require verification and accuracy.

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that focusing on resolving one conflict in the world is insufficient, unfair, and does not give due consideration to the challenges we face, stressing the need to deal with all the crises the world is witnessing at an equal distance.
